Zacuto Camera Support
For the RED Scarlet and Epic Cameras, and C300
The Studio Baseplate
The Studio Baseplate (pictured above) for Scarlet and Epic Cameras combines their C300 Studio Baseplate and the Rod Riser for Scarlet and Epic Cameras in one easy package. The Studio Baseplate is lightweight, sturdy and easily adaptable. Rods can be attached to the back of the plate to hold a shoulder pad, batteries, and other accessories. Rods can also be attached to the side of the plate, via rod ports, and secured with Allens.
The riser is attached via two Allen screws and is easily removed if you plan to use this with a Canon C300 as well. The riser gives you the correct rod height to add a follow focus and matte box to your kit. The Studio Baseplate for Scarlet and Epic Cameras comes with two 4.5” female/female front quick releasable rods.
The Gorilla Baseplate
The Gorilla Baseplate (pictured above) for the Scarlet and Epic Cameras is a simpler, lighter version of Zacuto’s Studio Baseplate for Scarlet and Epic Cameras. Simply attach the baseplate to your camera with 3/8” 16 and ¼” 20 screws and you are ready to go. The Gorilla Baseplate features two 15mm diameter, 60mm spaced threaded rod holes in the front of the baseplate allowing users to add a follow focus, lens support or other accessories to the front of the camera. The Gorilla Baseplate is not compatible for matte box use unless you have a height adjustable matte box. This baseplate also functions with the Canon C300.
The Gorilla Baseplate also features the Zacuto rod port system on the side of the plate which allows you to mount an EVF or other accessories off to the side. The Gorilla Baseplate is great for building simple run’n’gun type set ups like the Target Shooter, Striker and Recoil. This baseplate can also be used for a simple tripod set-up. The Gorilla Baseplate does not include rods. Rods must be purchased separately.
Stinger
The Stinger (pictured above) for Scarlet and Epic Cameras is a fully balanced shoulder mounted rig perfect for those long shooting days. The rig features Zacuto’s Studio Baseplate for Scarlet and Epic Cameras. This baseplate features Zacuto’s Rod Riser with 4.5” rods. The Rod Riser provides the correct rod height when using a matte box or follow focus with the Scarlet and Epic. Rods also run out of the back of the plate to hold the shoulder pad and counterbalance weights or batteries mounted on our Zwiss Plate for counter weight. On each side of the baseplate there is also a set of 15mm lightweight holes. The side rod ports holes take 15mm female rods that are locked via an Allen screw. This gives users virtually unlimited mounting options such as mounting a Zwiss Plate with professional batteries off of the side when shooting on a tripod for better balance, creating a cage configuration, or mounting Zacuto articulating arms, an EVF Mount, rods and more. The baseplate has standard ¼” 20 and 3/8” 16 holes on the bottom for mounting the rig onto a tripod.
The Stinger includes our Shoulder Pad with 7” rods and a Z-Lite 7lb counterbalance weight for a fully balanced in-line rig. The more balanced and less front heavy the rig, the longer you can hold it without arm fatigue. You can slide the counterbalance weight forward and backward on the rods for custom comfort. This rig can be used on your left or right shoulder. With the shoulder pad and counterbalance weight coming directly off of the back of the baseplate, the rig is perfectly in-line and ready to be used with one of our EVFs for traditional ENG style shooting. You can mount your EVF to the side of the rig using our EVF Standard Mount Kit.
This rig is compatible with any 15mm lightweight standard accessories. The Z-Focus would be a great add on accessory if you are looking for a follow focus.

Zacuto Rigs for Just About Every Camera Out There
In addition to the above, Zacuto has a variety of different camera stabilizer rigs for just about any occasion. Whether you are in the market for a camera shoulder support rig or a DSLR stabilizer, Zacuto has a rig for every type of camera out there. They have rigs designed specifically for DSLRs as well as rigs made for the larger prosumer cameras, ENG cameras, and everything all the way up to the Arri Alexa camera.
Zacuto makes two styles of rigs: Gorilla (handheld) rigs and Shoulder Mount. Gorilla rigs are meant for run and gun shooting and capturing moments but are not meant for holding more than 30 minutes at a time. They are great for shooting events, military exercises, documentaries, shooting in tight spaces, news and the like. Shoulder Mount rigs are meant for all-day shooting. You can shoot with a Shoulder Mount rig for hours at a time. These are great for shooting a reality series, longer format news and shots that you want extremely stable. Shots taken with a Shoulder Mount rig can look almost like a tripod shot if done well.
Some Zacuto video camera support systems (like our Double Barrel rig) also utilize dual hand grips, a shoulder pad and counterbalance weights for a full camera shoulder support system. One unique feature you will notice about all Zacuto kits is that the hand grips are long. This allows you to keep your arms low and bent at 90 degree angles. This is to prevent fatigue while holding your hands up high and it provides better control and stability. Counterbalance weights are used much like a seesaw to balance the rig on your shoulder. This provides a much more comfortable shooting experience and prevents hand fatigue from front heavy kits.
Remember, all Zacuto parts are universal so you always have the option of adding additional accessories to your camera support system. As history dictates, your camera will be out of date and considered obsolete in as short as 6 months to a few years – this will not happen with your Zacuto rig. The cameras may change, but Zacuto gear will remain the same and you will be able use it on your next camera. Zacuto rigs are future proof. Our camera stabilization kits have a reputation of being the top of the line camera support gear. All Zacuto parts are designed and manufactured in the USA, plus they come with a lifetime guarantee.
